America's Got...Singers??

It seems like every season, the winner of "America's Got Talent" is a singer. I thought the whole point of the show was to find a talent worthy of a Vegas act. Don't get me wrong, all the winners are talented, but we see tons of singers on "American Idol." Acts like "Fighting Gravity," on the other hand, have no where else to shine but on "America's Got Talent." Yet, they always seem to lose out to singers or dancers who can also compete on "So You Think You Can Dance" or "America's Best Dance Crew." It's one thing if the singing and dancing acts don't meet the age requirements for the other competition shows, but acts that are eligible to compete elsewhere, should step aside and leave "America's Got Talent" for other talents.

Extreme Makeover....Jenn Edition

My unexplained fascination with redoing my room every six months or so drives my Dad crazy. Mostly because he is the one who has to do the work. It can be as simple as rearranging the furniture or it could involve buying a new comforter, which means a new paint color on the walls, hanging new, matching curtains, and finding the perfect throw pillows. Don't get me wrong, I am perfectly willing to do the work myself, but Dad is a little anal and likes to do it all by himself so it can be perfect.
Recently, I embarked on the largest change my room has gone through since moving to Jersey eleven years ago.
My sister and I had this ugly, cheap, white furniture for as long as I can remember. When she moved she left hers with us and I don't blame her. A few weeks ago, I shifted my bed against the wall to make it look like a big day bed. My mom commented my room would have so much space if I down sized to a full bed with storage, instead of a queen with junk sitting underneath it. At the store we found the perfect bed and it came with a matching five drawer dresser to finally replace the white, broken one. Of course a new bed lead to a new mattress and a new comforter set. It took a while to find the perfect comforter to match my already green walls. Dad refused to paint it again. I finally settled on a modern brown and white floral one. The wall color pops against it and looks fantastic!!
We will see how long this arrangement lasts!!

Suddenly September

I realized the other day that this is the first September in about seventeen years that I will not be going back to school. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, I am relieved to not have to worry about multiple ten page research papers and a presention due in the same week, or not being able to read for pleasure because I have to much to read for my classes. I will miss the excitement of the first day, on the other hand, and the freedom during the summers. But for now I have done all I can in the class room. It is time to see what I can do in the real world.
